STEPPING MOTORS
    Motors

The motors step by step (PaP) differ to a great extent from the motors that all we know CC (DC). When applying to their coils an suitable set of electrical impulses these turn on their axis a fixed angle, this crossed angle that depends on the characteristics of the motor, is called step to him, so that it is possible to be controlled, by means of an electronic circuit, the amount, speed and sense of the steps.

There are two basic types of PaP motors, BI-POLE that are made up of the two coils and SINGLE-POLE ones that has four coils. Externally they are different to each other by the number of wires. Bi-pole the single one has four connections two for each coil and the single-pole ones that normally present/display six wire, two for each coil and another one for feeding of each pair of these, although in some cases we can find single-pole motors with five cables, basically is the same, single that the cable of of feeding is common for both even of coils.

SINGLE-POLE Motor Scheme

BI-POLE Motor Scheme

For our CeNeCé we are going away to center in the SINGLE-POLE ones, being simpler to use and to find in the market (future versions of the controller will be able to manage all the types of motors). We needed that the motors have power sufficient to move the small spindles or gears that we use for the cutter. A single-pole motor of a consumption of between 350mA and 500mA is sufficient. Motors of smaller consumption do not develop torque necessary. Another characteristic is the steps that the motor takes to turn a complete return, most common are of 48, 100 and 200 steps, depend on the type of small spindle and the precision that we want to obtain we will choose a motor or another one.

A problem that can be raised to us is as to know as it is each pole of the coil, since the colors are not standardized. So we took tester and we read the value (resistance) of all the poles (we suppose that the 30 coils are of Ohm.), the common one (feeding) with each pole of 30 coil will read Ohm and between poles of the same 60 coil Ohm., by elimination will be easy to find the poles us of the coils. If we were mistaken does not pass anything, single that the motor will not turn. Changing the order of two of the poles of a coil we changed the direction of rotation. The order for the controller of the CeNeCé according to Single-pole scheme is:

+v1

A1

B1

A2

B2

+v2

If the single motor has five cables, the common one of feeding can be connected to anyone of the sides.
